100% Legal Live Streams

All of the live horse racing streams featured on GGTV are 100% legal and 100% safe. Many websites feature illegal streams that simply steal the content direct from the likes of At The Races and Racing UK and whilst there may be a small cost to watch the races via legal streams (but let’s face it you are likely to be betting on the action anyway!) you can be sure that there are no computer viruses and/or other nasty’s infecting your computer/phone/tablet when watching.

So How is GGTV Different?

The streams that we feature here on GGTV are offered by bookmakers who have paid for the rights to bring you live horse racing action, so you can watch races that you have bet on.

What Can You Watch?

Different bookies have different services with some only focusing on the UK and Ireland whilst some bring you the action from all around the world. If you are after a specific race, please visit our preview section or for all races from a specific track, check out our track guides.

You can also click on the bookies in the table above for all the info you need.

The race is the 2nd most prestigious chase run in England, after the Cheltenham Gold Cup, so it is no surprise that the most successful participants in the race are household names in the sport.

The most successful horse at the time of writing (August 2021) is the iconic Kauto Star who won the race in 2006, 2007, 2008, 2009 and 2011 before retiring.

The jockey to have the most wins in the race is perhaps unsurprisingly Kauto Stars jockey Ruby Walsh but the leading trainer in the race is Paul Nicholls who has enjoyed success not just with the races most successful horse but also with See More Business (1997 and 1999), Silviniaco Conti (in 2013 and 2014), Clan Des Obeaux (in 2018 and 2019) as well as with Frodon (in 2020).

If you love great racing or are just at a loose end on Boxing Day, the great news is that it has never been easier to watch great horse racing live online including the chance to watch the King George VI Chase live.

If you do decide to watch the race via one of the great streaming services that are featured on this page and that are offered by the online bookmakers that we feature, you will need to be aged 18 or over and have a funded account but you can then watch racing all year around from racecourses across the globe.

You will also need to have a funded account and have placed a qualifying bet on the race, but the chances are that if you are interested in watching the race live, you are also interested in betting on the action so why not simply choose to bet with a bookie that allows you to watch along live.

History

As you would expect from a race with such a long history and with so much prestige placed upon it, the popular Kempton Park chase has had a number of interesting things happen to it and during it down the years, with many of those lost to history but thankfully, many more have become part of local folklore, and even more are a matter of fact in the course’s history records.

The race was inaugurated all of the way back in 1937, when it was a horse named Southern Hero who picked up the first ever trophy for trainer G Evans and for jockey J Fawcus.

Interestingly, the horse was aged 12 and remains the oldest ever winner of the race.

The race is of course run annually but it was a relatively stop start beginning to what is one of the highlights of the racing calendar as after just 2 running’s of the race, it wasn’t held between 1939-46 as Kempton Park was closed during the war as it became a reception centre for incoming prisoners-of-war.

The 1950 (won by Manicou) and 1951 (won by Statecraft) editions of the race were both won by horses under the tutelage of Peter Cazalet, who became the first trainer to win on more than 1 occasion.

The first horse and jockey to reach that achievement both happened in 1954 when the horse Halloween, ridden by Fred Winter pick up its 2nd win after also winning with the same rider in 1952.

After Winter became the first jockey to win on a 3rd occasion it was the weather so associated with that surname that had the biggest impact on the race as frost caused its cancellation in both 1961 and 1962.

In 1965, the iconic Irish horse Arkle won its first and only King George VI Chase.

The race faced another couple of years hiatus in 1967, due to foot-and-mouth restrictions and in 1968 because of frost once again and after returning in 1969, the race was snowed off in 1970.

Tommy Carmody became the first jockey to win on 3 straight occasions between 1978-1980 but that run came to an end after a mixture of frost and snow caused the 1981 edition to be cancelled.

The late 1980’s saw Desert Orchid start to dominate and win 3 straight races between 1988-1990, which was the record until 2009 when Kauto Star wrapped up its 4th straight win.

The next race to fall fowl of the weather came in 1995 when snow and frost hit the course but this time the race was moved to Sandown.

The same happened in 2005 as Kempton Park was closed due to development whilst the 2010 edition of the race actually took place in January 2011 after the Boxing Day meeting was moved due to weather.

The ‘2010’ edition also made history as it was won by the horse Long Run for jockey Nicky Henderson but it down to its jockey Sam Waley-Cohen that grabbed the headlines as he became the first amateur winner of the race, something he backed up on the same horse just 2 years later.

In 2020, Froden won the race for Paul Nicholls but it was once again the jockey that grabbed the headlines as Bryony Frost became the first female jockey to win the race.
