Sandown Park Races Live

Sandown Park has a long of fascinating history with the course opening in 1875. Sandown Park was one of the first horse racing tracks to charge for all of those in attendance. The first meeting was a 3-day event that start on Thursday 22nd April 1875 and featured the Grand National Hunt Chase, which is now part of the Cheltenham Festival.

Despite loosing races such as that, the course is still home to many notable races with the Eclipse Stakes, a Group 1 flat race run in July over 1 mile, 2 furlongs and 7 yards, the most famous.

There are a number of other notable races run at the course including top flat races including the Sandown Mile 9a group 2 race run over 1 mile and 14 yards), the Sandown Classic Trial (a group 3 race run over 1 mile, 2 furlongs and 7 furlongs), the Gordon Richards Stakes (a group 3 race run over 1 mile, 2 furlongs and 7 yards), the Esher Cup (a handicap race run over 1 mile and 14 yards), the Henry II Stakes (a group 3 race run over 2 miles and 78 yards), the Brigadier Gerard Stakes (a group 3 race run over 2 miles and 78 yards), the National Stakes (run over 5 furlongs and 6 yards), the Heron Stakes (run over 1 mile ad 14 yards), the Whitsun Stakes (run over 1 mile and 14 yards), the Sprint Stakes (a group 3 race run over 5 furlongs and 6 yards), the Atalanta Stakes (a group 3 race run over 1 mile and 14 yards) and the Solario Stakes (a group 3 race run over 7 furlongs and 16 yards).

If hurdle racing is your preferred type, there is also lots of great racing including the Tolworth Novices Hurdle (a grade 1 race run over 2 miles), the Heroes Handicap Hurdle (a grade 3 race run over 2 miles and 6 furlongs), the Contenders Hurdle (run over 2 miles and 110 yards), the Imperial Cup (a grade 3 race run over 2 miles and 110 yards), the EBF Novices Hurdle (a grade 3 race run over 2 miles and 4 furlongs) and the Winter Novices Hurdle (a group 3 race run over 2 miles and 4 furlongs).

For steeplechase fans, the top races include the Gainsborough Chase (a handicap race run over 3 miles and 110 yards), the Scilly Isles novices Chase (a grade 1 race run over 2 miles, 4 furlongs and 110 yards), the Grand Military Gold Cup (run over 3 miles and 110 yards), the Bet365 God cup (a grade 3 race run over 3 miles, 5 furlongs and 110 yards), the Celebration Chase (a grade 1 race run over 2 miles), the Henry VIII Novices Chase (a grade 1 race run over 2 miles) and the Tingle Creek Chase (a grade 1 race run over 2 miles).

As well as horse racing, Sandown Park has branched out in recent years to become an all-round entertainment and leisure centre with the course hosting events all year round including trade shows, toy fairs, wedding fairs, auctions and even concerts by leading bands.
