Beverley Races Live

Racing in Beverley has a long history, with established race days dating back to 1767 whilst sporadic races had been held before that.

Originally the races were held just after big meetings at the nearby York racecourse but in the modern era, the course has become the leading horse racing course in East Yorkshire and has established a good selection of race meetings spread throughout the racing season.

The right handed course, which is just over 1 miles and 3 furlongs in length has a couple of interesting points about it that makes it stand out compare to other courses and that also makes it a tricky one for horses and jockeys alike.

The course is in the main flat but it does feature sharp turns and a big uphill finish which makes it a test of the jockeys skill to corner well and a test of the stamina of the horses in the run in.

The course also has one of the biggest draw biases in the United Kingdom on its 5 furlong sprint course as it features a sharp right hand turn and a slope on the track itself that gives a huge advantage to those horses drawn low, towards the inside rail.

As you would expect from a course with so much history, there are a couple of races that have develop into stand out races at the course including the Hilary Needler Trophy, a listed flat race run in May over 5 furlongs, and the Beverley Bullet Sprint Stakes, a listed flat race run in August over 5 furlongs.
