The course is located at the top of Haldon Hills, which is a round 256 metres above sea level, which makes it the highest racecourse in the United Kingdom.
The course has undergone a number of changes down the years, including changing to a flat course, but in modern time the National Hunt course is around 2 miles, 3 furlongs and 110 yards in length and is a slightly rounded oval in shape. There are 11 fences including 2 open ditches and 1 water jump per lap.
