Wincanton Races Live

Wincanton is known for its large fences which makes it an ideal course for testing horses destined for chases. The course is also known for giving exciting racing thanks to having 3 jumps in quick succession in a 2nd half of the home straight. This dramatic finish leads to close races and unpredictable results.

The course holds numerous race meetings throughout the National Hunt season with notable races including the Kingwell Hurdle and the CGA Chase. Both of these races are used as trials for the Champion Hurdle and the Cheltenham Gold Cup.

Other notable races includes the Badger Ales Trophy, a handicap chase run over 3 miles and 1 furlong, the Elite Hurdle, a grade 2 hurdle run of 2 miles and the Rising Stars Novices Chase, a grade 2 chase run over 2 miles and 5 furlong.

The course at Wincanton is a right-handed course with little in the way of undulations with sharp corners that makes for one of the toughest tests especially when the going is good.

The course often rewards horses that get off to strong starts with front runners gaining a huge advantage due to the tough nature of the bends couples with the 3 quick jumps in the run in not allowing horses to come from behind although there is a high number of fallers due to difficulty of track which can often give up shock results.
