Watch the Melbourne Cup Live From Flemington Racecourse

When it comes to sport in Australia there are 2 events that dominate the calendar each and every year, with Rugby League’s NRL Grand Final and State of Origin Series sporting events that not only grab the attention of all Australians but get beamed around the world to millions of fans.

The Australian Open is also up their but is hardly an Australian event and for those in the State of Victoria, the Aussie Rules Final is also a pretty big occasion but it of course makes little to no waves anywhere else in the country and certainly not outside of the borders of Australia but for one day of the year, everything in the country comes to a standstill and the horse racing world turns its eyes onto the historic Flemington Racecourse in the city of Melbourne.

Just as the Grand National in the UK brings together racing fans and non-racing fans, the Melbourne Cup becomes the talk of the town not just in Victoria but throughout the whole of Australia.

That adds a great buzz to the event and it certainly adds to the spectacle of the racing but the good news for those of us who have to watch the action from affair is that the action out on the turf certainly lives up to the occasion as well.
The race is run over 3,200 meters (3.2 km or 2 miles) and is open for horse raged 3 and over, with a handicap added to make sure of a close and exciting flat race.

The race has the biggest prize fund in Australia and one of the biggest in the world, so horses now make the long trip down to Melbourne from across the globe to add an international flair to an Australian sporting institution.

Held at the Flemington Racecourse and conducted by the Victoria Racing Club on the first Tuesday in November, the race is known across Australia as ‘The Race that stops the nation’ and it the biggest race of the Melbourne Spring Racing Carnival.

The event was first held in 1861 when it was run over exactly 2 miles (3,219 meters) but was shortened to 3,200 meters in 1972 when the metric system was established in Australia.

All of the records before then was adjusted, with Rain Lovers 1968 times of 3 minutes and 19 seconds standing until 1990 when Kingston Rule set a new record of 3 minutes and 16 seconds.

The spring carnival in which the race takes place during attracts huge crowds to the racecourse with a record attendance of 122,736 in attendance for the 2003 edition and whilst the numbers have been well below that recently, the international attention continually increases for this incredible race.

That includes across the United Kingdom and Ireland but unfortunately despite the historical and prestigious nature of the race, it can be a frustrating experience to try and watch the race live on British television.

Thankfully, there is now a much easier way to watch the Melbourne Cup live and that is by registering with one of the fantastic Melbourne Cup live streaming services offered by the online bookmakers featured on this page.

Whilst there is a requirement that you have a funded account, are aged 18 and over and have place a qualifying bet on the action to be able to watch along live, the chances are that if you are wanting to watch the Melbourne Cup, or any other horse race, you are also interested in betting on the action, so why not simply choose to watch one of the bookies featured on this page that allow you to watch along with the action that you have bet on live.
